When a mode adds to the color values of the layer underneath, the numeric value for every color channel (red, green and blue) is added to the corresponding values of each color channel underneath. So if a pixel has 35% blue on the top layer and 25% blue on the bottom layer and a mode adds them together it will output 65% blue (a brighter blue).

Hey all! I'm working on a project with a lot of CG footage and in AE i've been time remapping all the precomps to get things timed right. It's ready for final delivery but I just noticed that AE is not doing any sort of frame blending (in this case I want pixel motion) to the shots! This is classic Pixel Motion frame blending glitches. You'll notice it between cuts if you go frame by frame. It's trying to add new frames and whenever the frames to either side are too different it doesn't know what to do - like cuts and crazy concert lighting or flashes. I've never used it on an entire clip for this reason.
